BACKGROUND AND CONTENT OF THE 3 DAYS WORKSHOP
This 3-day introductory course gives the participant an overview of the possibilities of natural building and what is good to know if you want to build or renovate with natural materials. This course will provide a basic practical knowledge of earth and straw building, clay plastering as well as building mandala roofs.
As a result of this practical course, the participant:
- Has an overview of traditional natural building and finishing materials, their characteristics, and areas of application;
- Has an understanding of straw construction techniques, hybrid solutions, and the materials and tools used in straw construction;
- Has an overview of basic earth-building techniques, including the frameworks, mixtures, and tools used in earth-construction;
- Has a preliminary understanding of building design, its development process, frame preparation, and the adaptation of straw bales to the framework;
- Can apply natural plasters while adhering to environmentally friendly technology, traditions, and quality requirements;
- Is capable of following energy-efficient construction principles as well as workplace safety and health regulations during the execution of work.

DAY 1 OF TRAINING
EARTH CONSTRUCTION June 13, 8 academic hours
Training keywords: clay, sand, fibers, different types of frameworks, construction techniques.
This practical course teaches how to:
- Mix a suitable earth mixture for walls
- Build a thin earth-wall
- Create a strong and textured wall
Earth construction is especially beneficial when we want to create thermal mass in our home—it keeps the space cool in summer and slowly absorbs and radiates heat in winter.

DAY 2 OF TRAINING
Straw bales are available in Estonia. Smaller bales can be found in only a few places, but large bales, which are ideal for construction, are widely available.
STRAW BALE CONSTRUCTION June 14, 8 academic hours
Training keywords: double framework, various sizes of straw bales, different straw construction techniques.
This practical course teaches how to:
- Build a wall framework for straw bale walls
- Prepare the ideal straw bale
- Construct a wall using straw bales
DAY 3 OF TRAINING

CLAY PLASTERING June 15, 8 academic hours
Training keywords: substrates, plastering systems, base plaster layers, reinforcement, finishing, decorative finishing. This practical course teaches how to:
- Create a beautiful space with an excellent indoor climate using your own hands
- Renovate an existing house with natural materials
- Properly prepare surfaces for plastering
- Install plaster mats / reed stucco
- Correctly handle plastering tools and mixtures
